Trump to hold press conference to announce ‘star’ new Labor pick

President Trump scheduled a press conference on Thursday to announce his new pick for labor secretary, less than 24 hours after the administration was dealt a devastating blow when Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination.

“The man I’ll be announcing for labor is a star,” the president told reporters during a congressional listening session Thursday morning.

“[He] is really phenomenal,” Trump added, while scolding Senate Democrats for holding up his Cabinet confirmations.

The White House declined to say whether Trump will take questions or how long he will appear for.

Trump fielded questions from reporters during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, though the appearance occurred shortly before Puzder withdrew.

The surprise press conference is scheduled for noon ET at the White House.
