A new federal report shows Marylanders are very generous volunteering to help others.
The state ranks third along with Arizona and Montana for hours volunteered each year. And the state holds first place for the rate of volunteerism from 2003-05, according to a study released earlier this week from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
For those of us who do not yet volunteer, the study should serve as a challenge to think about where we could best serve those in need. Whether tutoring at a local school, mentoring a child or visiting an elderly neighbor who may feel isolated and alone, the hours we spend helping others will make our state an even better place to live.
