“What is wrong with the president today? We don’t know. Something is wrong. Whether or not you like the president or not, whether you enjoy his public affect or not on a regular basis, it is clear that there is something wrong,” Maddow said in the opening minutes of her show. “And that’s important whenever the president of the United States is visibly unwound like that.”
At the briefing, an Asian-American reporter, CBS News’s Weijia Jiang, confronted Trump about why he suggested she “ask China” to respond to her question on coronavirus death rates.
After calling on another reporter, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, who let Jiang finish her line of questioning before saying she had two questions, the president cut her off and ended the press conference.
Maddow said it is “possible that it is just stress” bothering Trump, suggesting how an outbreak among White House employees might be weighing on his mind as the president is pushing for reopening the country.
