After his stint in jail late Monday, Mayor Vincent Gray returned to D.C.’s social scene Tuesday night and threatened to go back again and again until D.C. became the 51st state. He also shared with Yeas & Nays the thought process that got him into handcuffs in the first place.
“Going in, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to jail, if the time was right,” he told Yeas & Nays at the Embassy Chef Challenge for Cultural Tourism D.C. “But when the police got there, the time was right.”
Gray, still sporting his hot new accessory, the ID bracelet given to him after being arrested for protesting the federal government’s control over city spending, also invited the audience to join the jailbirds club.
“It’s time justice came to this District of Columbia,” he told the audience. “I invite everyone to go to jail with me,” he added.
