Miley Cyrus targets Republican Sen. Tom Cotton for support of ‘religious freedom’ law

Miley Cyrus is suddenly all about politics … or at least terrorizing Republican lawmakers.

The pop star expressed her dissatisfaction with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) on Twitter Thursday for voicing his support of Indiana’s controversial “religious freedom” law.

“Let’s stir some s–t up!” she wrote, inviting thousands of retweets and favorites. “Senator Cotton (202) 224-2353 !!!! Happy Hippies call & express why freedom is important to us & our country!”

How nice.

“Senator Cotton thinks gay community needs to get ‘perspective’ cuz ‘In Iran they hang you for the crime of being gay,'” she wrote in an earlier tweet, referencing a comment Cotton made to CNN Monday that was spotlighted by a Think Progress article also tweeted out by Cyrus.

Miley’s most recent political tweeting comes just a week after she labeled Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) an “a–hole” on Instagram for signing the religious freedom bill into law.

The bill prevents Indiana state and local governments from “substantially burdening a person’s ability to exercise their religion — unless the government can show that it has a compelling interest and that the action is the least-restrictive means of achieving it,” according to the Indianapolis Star.

Opponents of the legislation are worried that it will enable businesses to deny service to same sex individuals on the basis of religion.

On Thursday, lawmakers in Indiana responded to the pushback on the law by making changes to it in order to shield the gay community from discrimination.
