Today’s edition of USA Today brings the latest evidence that earmarks are one of the basic ways in which Washington politicians in both parties trade tax dollars for campaign contributions and other favors. It happens that two prominent Democrats – New York’s senators Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer – were caught this time, but regular readers of this space know earmark corruption is a bipartisan affliction.
According to USA Today, only a few days after a Senate committee approved a $1 million earmark for an upstate New York museum on the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival, the owner of the facility contributed $29,200 to Clinton and Schumer.
