U.S. officials to hold cybertalks with Germany

U.S. officials will be in Berlin March 22-23 for a bilateral meeting on cybersecurity, the State Department said on Tuesday. It is the third between the two countries in as many years.

Attendees will focus on norms of state behavior, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection, cybercrime, Internet freedom and Internet governance, according to a press release issued by the State Department.

The U.S. delegation is being led by Christopher Painter, the department’s coordinator for cyberissues. Others in attendance include officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the National Security Council, the Pentagon, the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Commerce.

Painter was appointed to his newly-created position by the president in 2011. Since that time, the U.S. has held a number of cyber-oriented bilateral meetings around the globe in an effort to establish norms of state behavior in the area.
