The think tank has endured a spam attack of biblical proportions in recent weeks. On Tuesday, its IT network reached an unenviable high: 6 million spam e-mails in a single day.
The result, said Jim Weidman, Heritage’s director of editorial services, is that “sometimes stuff gets hung up — going in or out — anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks.”
So is it a liberal conspiracy?
“No idea who or what’s behind it,” said Weidman. “It could be completely random.”
But, he said, as of Wednesday afternoon, Heritage’s IT department seemed to have the problem licked: “Right now we’re basking in a return to normalcy. … Methinks this kind of thing is rapidly becoming part of the price for maintaining a prominent presence on the Web in the 21st century.”
