Romney’s Ads Turned Against Him

First it was McCain, who said that Romney could “spend his whole fortune” running attack ads over McCain’s role in immigration reform and it still wouldn’t change the fact that Romney supported it at the time. But now it’s Giuliani who, pointing out that Reagan, the “hero of our party” (sounds kind of Communist when you say it that way, no?), had granted illegal immigrants “straight-out amnesty,” said that “I think he [Reagan] would be in one of Mitt’s negative commercials.” That’s a zinger. I’m watching on delay now, but also at Contentions I see Huckabee’s made some kind of call for more “vertical leadership” and less “horizontal leadership.” Again, JPod: “This might have worked as a double-entendre criticism of Bill Clinton, but it’s incomprehensible in this context.” Certainly the line of the night from the blogosphere. Oh wait, Romney just quoted P.J. O’Rourke–another WEEKLY STANDARD contributing editor. That’s two in one night! Is he trying to get a WEEKLY STANDARD endorsement to match the notch in his belt from National Review?
