Tips come in for Pr. George’s Police, though not for homicides

About 50 people called in with crime tips during a nine-hour radio-thon Tuesday for the Prince George’s County police Tuesday, but most information was not about the county’s 20 homicides of 2011, a police spokesman said.

“We didn’t really receive too much feedback or tips regarding homicides,” said Cpl. Henry Tippett. “Maybe they’re just too afraid to come forward for some reason.”

Many calls were residents reporting drug activity or expressing neighborhood concerns, like trash cluttering vacant properties, he said.

Tippett said tips were passed on to investigators at district stations.

He said Radio One, which is based in Lanham and owns urban radio stations across the country, approached the police about the readio-thon. “It was the first time our agency had ever done anything like that.”
