Loudoun school board member seeks superintendent’s resignation over transgender policy

A member of the Loudoun County school board has called on the county superintendent to resign and accused him of “withholding information for political gain” to ensure the board passed a transgender bathroom policy.

Loudoun County school board member John Beatty joined county parents and Virginia Republican gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin in calling for the resignation of superintendent Scott Ziegler, Fox News reported Wednesday.

Beatty accused Ziegler of covering up a May 28 sexual assault because it occurred in a women’s restroom and at the time Ziegler was pushing for a policy change that would allow bathroom access based on gender identity rather than biological sex.

In an email to the outlet, Beatty said, “I believe no updates were given because the superintendent was working to aggressively pass a policy that would have allowed unrestricted access of biological males to female restrooms. He didn’t provide information because if it came out that there was an assault in the bathroom, the transgender policy wouldn’t have passed.”

Beatty is the first member of the Loudoun County school board to call for Ziegler’s resignation over the handling of the May 28 sexual assault. A 15-year-old student was found guilty of that assault and is also facing charges for sexually assaulting another student at a different high school, months after the first assault took place.

At the school board meeting Tuesday, numerous parents called for Ziegler and the whole board to resign.

Beatty, in his email to Fox News, pledged his support for parents, saying he “will oppose any policy that jeopardizes your child’s safety and education. Stay in the fight and know someone is listening to your concerns.”
