Poll: Republican voters warming to Trump

Donald Trump’s favorability rating among Republicans has moved up a notch since he clinched the GOP presidential nomination in May, according to a new Gallup poll.

The poll said 64 percent of Republicans viewed the candidate favorably in June, up 10 points from February. Trump had mostly been mired in the mid-50 range until he became the defacto nominee in May.

However, Trump has made little progress over the last year among all voters. Just 34 percent had a favorable view of Trump in June, compared with 61 percent who had an unfavorable view. That’s essentially the same spread as a year earlier, when 31 percent had a positive view of the candidate, and 57 percent disagreed.

The only months when Trump has done better were September and October last year, when 35 percent viewed him favorably.

The national voter poll consisted of 3,538 adults who were questioned by telephone. There was a 3 percent margin of error among the collective group.
