While Democrats are waiting with bated breath for an announcement (an official announcement) from former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine on whether he’ll run for U.S. Senate in Virginia in 2012, another potential contender is reportedly mulling a bid as well: Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va.
From the Virginian-Pilot:
The Newport News Democrat said Friday he likely won’t decide until July. “There’s no urgency,” he said.
Scott also told the Pilot that he would want to stay in the House “if it appears we’re going to regain control. I have significant seniority.” He’s been in the House since 1993, and chaired a House Judiciary Committee subcommittee when Democrats were in the majority.
On the other side, three Republicans have officially announced that they’re running for the seat to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Jim Webb: former Sen. George Allen, Tea Party leader Jamie Radtke and Hampton Roads attorney David McCormick.
