A former campaign aide to President Trump is certain Roger Stone will be indicted in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, but doesn’t expect his longtime mentor will turn on the president.
“Roger is going to be indicted. He’s a critical piece for Mueller,” Sam Nunberg told the Hollywood Reporter. “He will fight to the end and never cop a plea deal.”
In his indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officials Friday, Mueller alleged an unnamed person had been communicating with Russian agents and members of the Trump campaign. Stone, who originally denied he was the middleman, later told CNN he is “probably” the unnamed person.
Nunberg questioned whether Mueller’s team would be able to get any new information out of Stone that it hasn’t already been told by other Trump associates.
“I think what they’ll get from Roger is what they’re getting from Mike Flynn — that Trump was asking about Hillary [Clinton]’s emails during the election,” he said, referring to Trump’s former national security adviser who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russians.
“They got nothing,” Stone told CNN on Wednesday about the special counsel’s investigation.
