Twitter erupted Monday after President Trump announced the nomination of U.S. District Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Social media users quickly speculated about the confirmation fight ahead for Kavanaugh, and some expressed their dismay in Trump’s second Supreme Court pick in as many years.
Don’t let anyone tell you there’s no path to winning this fight. It won’t be easy. But we have no further to look than the list of senators who declined Trump’s invitation tonight. https://t.co/FWFhTwDaXP

Gavin Newsom, Democratic candidate for California governor, called the nominee a “disaster for our country.”
Brett Kavanaugh will do nothing but side with Trump’s dangerous, bigoted agenda.
He believes assault weapons bans are unconstitutional, would dismantle the ACA, rip away a woman’s right to choose, and threaten LGBT and voting rights.
He would be a disaster for our country.

Kavanaugh likely gets confirmed. Elections have consequences. That said, enough already with the statements about how unfortunate it is that Democrats have made up their mind before hearings cough cough Merrick Garland cough cough

Schumer after laying out demands for SCOTUS nominee earlier: “I will oppose Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination with everything I have, and I hope a bipartisan majority will do the same”

One final thought: I think Trump has handed Senate Democrats an absolute gift in nominating the principal author of the Starr report, that the confirmation fight will be excruciating for the President, and that he will ultimately regret this decision.

If confirmed, Kavanaugh, 53, will replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy if he is confirmed by the Senate.
