Bridges gets emotional over hunger

If it was acting, it sure was Oscar-worthy, but Jeff Bridges seemed legitimately emotional when asked what his biggest challenge has been as a “famous person.” The actor, speaking before a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, told the packed audience that his current project, working to eradicate hunger, has been the toughest.

“It’s a moving question, I try not to [break] down,” he said, pausing, letting the audience take in the fact that he was actually getting upset. “This is the most important thing right here … ending child hunger in our country, it’s the most significant thing I’ve ever done,” the Academy Award-winning actor continued.

Bridges, alongside Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (the first U.S. governor to pledge to end hunger by 2015), gave a thoughtful speech on the topic, then answered an assortment of questions on his acting career. “Poverty is a very complex issue — but feeding a child isn’t,” Bridges insisted.
