Police say 85-year-old woman killed one roommate and shot another

Authorities in Washington state said an elderly woman tried to strangle herself with a cord after murdering one of her roommates and attempting to kill another.

Police in Federal Way received a 911 call about a shooting at about 1 a.m. on Thursday morning. The caller told dispatchers that she had been shot at her home, according to KOMO. When police arrived, they found one woman who had been killed by “blunt force trauma” and another who had been shot and was in critical condition.

Both the deceased woman and the injured one were in their 30s. The gunshot wound victim told police that the perpetrator was their 85-year-old roommate. When officers encountered the elderly woman, they said she was alive after an attempt to strangle herself with an electric cord.

The 85-year-old, whose name has not been released, was arrested and is being interviewed by investigators. Federal Way Police Commander Kurt Schwan said the attack was a domestic situation between the three women.

“Any time this happens, it’s a horrible situation. But this time of year, it’s especially bad,” Schwan said.
