Trump campaign meets with RNC to discuss general election strategy

A handful of Donald Trump’s senior campaign advisers spent Monday meeting with Republican National Committee staffers to discuss the candidate’s and party’s plans for the general election.

Those representing the Trump campaign at the string of meetings included the billionaire’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, convention manager Paul Manafort, senior strategist Rick Wiley and deputy campaign manager Michael Glassner, according to the Washington Post. The four staffers met with RNC chairman Reince Priebus, finance chairman Lee Eisenberg and communications director Sean Spicer, along with others.

“It was a good discussion where we talked about the best way to work together and come together so that we all have a singular focus on November,” Lewandowski told the Post. “Since we’re a month ahead of where we thought we’d be … we have had to expedite the process of working with the party.”

The series of meetings, which come as Trump seeks to unite a fractured Republican party and court GOP leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan, included talk of the how the existing RNC infrastructure and financial resources will be utilized in the general election and what more the Trump campaign can do to organize itself ahead of the businessman’s impending battle against likely Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Trump recently flip-flopped on his previous promise to self-fund his campaign through the general election, saying that he plans to develop a “world-class finance organization” and would be open to outside help.

In an interview with the Post, Spicer said the goal of the meetings was to brief the Trump campaign on how it intends to help the nominee “win in November.”

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks did not return the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
