Trump claims he was ‘not involved’ with DOJ decision to investigate Russia inquiry origins

President Trump said he was “not involved” with Attorney General William Barr’s decision to launch an investigation into the origins of the Russia inquiry.

Trump has been a longtime critic of the Intelligence Community’s decision to investigate his 2016 campaign for ties to Russia. On Thursday, it was announced that U.S. Attorney John Durham opened an investigation into the origins of the inquiry into Trump’s campaign to see if there was any wrongdoing.

Although Trump supports the investigation, he told America This Week host Eric Bolling he was “not involved” with the decision for Durham to start the investigation.

“I’m not involved in it from the standpoint of it’s not my mandate, but it’s obviously Bill Barr’s mandate,” said Trump, adding, “He’s a great attorney general and a lot of terrible things, I would say, happened, and they’re gonna find out.”

He noted that he believes Durham will “find a lot” in his investigation of FBI officials such as James Clapper and John Brennan.

“I think they’re very bad people and I think they were very bad for the country, but we’ll see what they find,” Trump stated, later adding, “I think there were a lot of breakings of the law.”

Trump claimed he found out about the investigation from press reports.

“When I read the papers this morning, I was extremely happy,” Trump said.
