Weather Channel hits Breitbart for using video to ‘mislead Americans’

The Weather Channel is calling on the right-leaning Breitbart News website to stop attempting to “mislead Americans” by using one of the nature and meteorology-focused channel’s videos.

An article posted Tuesday on the Weather Channel’s website said, “Note to Breitbart: Earth Is Not Cooling, Climate Change Is Real and Please Stop Using Our Video to Mislead Americans.”

At issue is a Nov. 30 column that was published at Breitbart by James Delingpole. It claimed global temperatures dropped this year. Delingpole cites that as evidence to argue the earth is not experiencing a pattern of global warming.

Embedded in the Breitbart column was a video produced by the Weather Channel.

The Weather Channel acknowledged that it was legal for Breitbart to use the video “as part of a content-sharing agreement with another company, but there should be no assumption that The Weather Company endorses the article associated with it.”

Breitbart, once an obscure news site with a large online following, has found itself thrust into the mainstream after its former chairman, Steve Bannon, was named top adviser to President-elect Trump’s incoming administration.
