An explosion in a garbage can along the site of a planned race to benefit Marines in New Jersey has led police to shut down the area and search for other possible explosive devices.
Some kind of bomb went off in a garbage can near the shore in Seaside Park, New Jersey Saturday morning, according to law enforcement, near the route for a 5K run for a charity that benefits Marines.
Officers and dogs trained to detect bombs are searching for possible other explosives in garbage cans, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The explosion was not a prank, a spokesman for the office told a local ABC News affiliate.
The run has been delayed while law enforcement searches the area. No one was hurt by the initial explosion.
