Gov. Bob McDonnell, vice chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has sent out a video message to lend his support to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who is facing a revolt over a proposed anti-union measure.
“I applaud Scott for his leadership,” McDonnell said. “We can’t afford the same level of public pensions that we’ve paid for in the past.”
“Governor Walker, congratulations, you’re making the tough decisions,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Washington Post reports that President Obama’s political arm, Organizing for America, became involved in the fight after Democratic National Committee Chairman and former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine spoke to union officials.
The GOP seized on the news; the Republican Party of Virginia sent out an e-mail asking why Kaine is moving “so far to the left” so early in his run for Senate — though he hasn’t declared one way or the other whether he’ll jump into the race to fill retiring U.S. Sen. Jim Webb’s seat.
Meanwhile, a DNC official told the Post that Republicans were exaggerating Kaine’s involvement in the labor protests.
