On the eleventh anniversary of the worst terrorist attacks on United States soil, the President of the United States has yet to recognize these events on the ever-popular social medium, Twitter. The president’s single tweet of the day so far reads, “The election is in 8 weeks. Sign up to volunteer: http://OFA.BO/s3tXFz.”
GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made sure to communicate his thoughts on this important day in American history via Twitter: “On this most somber day, America is united under God in its quest for peace and freedom at home and across the world.”
The events of September 11 transcend politics and the Commander-in-Chief should be the first to put this nation above politics on Twitter.
President Obama and the first lady did however recognize the events on September 11 when they laid a wreath at the Pentagon this morning and he said, “So as painful as this day is and always will be, it leaves us with the lesson that no single event can ever destroy who we are. No act of terrorism can ever change what we stand for.”
The president reportedly observed a moment of silence on the lawn of the White House this morning.
The families of the victims who died, the first responders and the men and women of this great nation deserve your solemn respect, not your partisan politics on Twitter, Mr. President. Please show your 19 million plus followers that you properly recognize the gravity of this day and what it meant to all of us.
