Footage has been released from the missile attack in Saudi Arabia that wounded more than two dozen civilians.
Early Wednesday, a cruise missile hit the arrivals hall at a civilian airport in Abha, a city in the southwest of the country about 80 miles from the Yemeni border. Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed responsibility for the attack which injured 26 people including children.
The security footage shows the moment the missile slammed into the airport.
Saudi Arabia has waged a multi-year war against the Houthis, which are affiliated and funded by Iran. Last month, the rebels used drones to bomb two oil pumping stations in Saudi Arabia.
The missile attack comes amid escalating tension in the region between Iran and its proxies and the United States and its allies in the Middle East. Two oil tankers were attacked Thursday while they were traveling through the Gulf of Oman, and the U.S. has accused Iran of being behind the attack.
Last month, four other tankers were targeted by Iran in what U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said was an attempt by the country to inflate international oil prices.
The U.S. military recently deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force to the Middle East. The increased military presence comes at the same time the U.S. continues to exert a “maximum pressure” campaign against the regime targeting its financial industry.
