Like many jobs, being the superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools isn’t just about the money (which, including benefits, totals at about $500,000 a year). It’s about the perks. Like eating green eggs and ham.
“I think you’re doing a very good job trying to fill in behind the lame duck super before you get the new superintendent,” Weast, who is retiring in June, told Board of Education President Chris Barclay and Vice President Shirley Brandman. But beyond policy and legislative tasks, Weast said there were certain roles only the true superintendent could fill.
“I’m going to raise some funds, I think, for our Latino folks. We are having a mock bullfight to raise funds. I have a cape,” among other acoutriments, Weast said. “And then there’s this wonderful hat that I get to wear at the Asian ceremony, where you get your picture taken with everyone in a costume your mother probably would love.”
Yes, for a superintendent, there are “numerous events where you get to wear a Dr. Seuss hat, learn about pie, and other things that are out there.”
Cute, right?
