So what do the suits think of Occupy DC?

During Thursday’s kickoff protest and march to what is expected to be four days of various demonstrations around the city, those who worked for the entities being protested tended to be unimpressed. Outside the U.S. Chamber of Commerce building, a handful of employees stuck outside looked on with bemused skepticism.

One noted the irony of the crowd picking that day to protest because inside the chamber, all-day meetings were going on that were addressing non-governmental organizations and nonprofit assistance and operations.

Tourists visiting from Great Britain and lunching on Pennsylvania Avenue smiled and watched at the crowd went by, calling it great entertainment. Another group of tourists from Ohio got caught up with the group as it marched to the White House so decided to join in for a block. As they left, one man said they were getting th “full Washington experience.”

But Examiner intern Leigh Giangreco found someone watching who’s perspective carries significance — he said he’s a U.S. Treasury Department official and declined to give his name. Here’s what he had to say:

I’m just interested in seeing what they’re doing and seeing how Washington is reacting to what they’re doing in New York. I think it’s an interesting movement, an interesting theme “the other 99%.” It’s more or less leaderless and it’s an interesting phenomenon, and they have a point. The bank and Wall Street situation is basically out of control. I think the compensation is out of control, I think the risks they took in terms of securities was out of control and I think we narrowly escaped an even bigger disaster.
