CYCLING May 23: Bike D.C., Freedom Plaza, 8:30 a.m. The 19-mile bike ride starting on Pennsylvania Avenue takes riders past monuments and memorials in Washington and Arlington. The streets will be car-free, and mechanical support will be available along the route. Info: bikedc.net. GOLF May 26: Zone Qualifying tournament, Springfield. The Virginia State Golf Association is holding its Northern Virginia Zone Qualifying tournament for the state Amateur Championship and SunTrust State Open at Springfield Golf & Country Club. Info: vsga.org. HIKING May 19: Meadowlark Botanical Gardens, Vienna, 10:15 a.m. The Potomac Appalachian Trail club is leading this 5-mile hike on dirt and paved trails in the gardens. May 23: Run for the Animals, Wheaton, 8:30 a.m. This is a 5k in Wheaton Regional Park to support the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary. The event also will feature a 1-mile walk, raffles and food. Info: animalsanctuary.org.

May 23: Laps 4 Haiti, Cardozo High School, 7 a.m. This is a fundraiser in which runners can donate based on a set distance around the Cardozo track — 200 meters, 800 meters or 1,600 meters. Info: lapsforhaiti.eventbrite.com.

May 23: Maryland Half Marathon, Timonium, 7 a.m. The 13.1-mile race will be at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. It is a fundraiser for the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. Info: mdhalfmarathon.com.

June 6: EX2 Off-Road Half-Marathon, Triangle, 8 a.m. Two races are offered in Prince William Forest Park — a 13-mile race and a new 10k. It’s a single-loop course, with hiking trails, fire roads and stream-side paths. Limited to 450 racers. Info: ex2adventures.com.

SWIMMING

May 29 and 30: Jim McDonnell Lake Swims, Reston. The Reston Masters team is hosting 1- and 2-mile races in Lake Audubon on May 30, with an open-water clinic and practice 1-mile swim on May 29. Slots are filling up, and entries close May 23. Info: restonmasters.org.
