Tim Scott blasts Biden for ‘arrogant’ remark about black voters

Sen. Tim Scott took offense at a comment made by presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden about black people.

The South Carolinian, who is the only black Republican in the Senate, said it was disrespectful for Biden to say during an interview Friday that black people who “have a problem” deciding whether to vote for him or President Trump “ain’t black.”

“That is the most arrogant, condescending comment I’ve heard in a very long time, and that’s saying something,” Scott told Fox Business host Stuart Varney on Friday.

Scott, a strong ally to Trump, also criticized Biden for his role in writing the 1990s crime bill that accelerated incarceration rates.

“The man who sponsored and led the charge of a 1990s crime bill that locked up more African American males than any other piece of legislation and President Trump comes along and through his criminal justice reform corrects the absolute mistakes made by Joe Biden,” Scott said. “If you think about the numbers, 1.3 million African Americans voted for Trump. He’s saying [to] the 1.3 million African Americans that you’re not black? Who in the heck does he think he is? That is the most arrogant, outrageous comment I’ve heard in a very long time, and I take offense to that.”

On Twitter, Scott said it was “sadly par for the course for Democrats to take the black community for granted and brow beat those that don’t agree.”
