Lawyer for Oath Keepers charged in Jan. 6 conspiracy case

The general counsel for the far-right organization known as the Oath Keepers was arrested in Texas Thursday morning after she was indicted on four charges in connection to the Jan. 6 riot, according to the Justice Department.

A federal grand jury indicted the attorney, Kellye SoRelle, on four counts, including conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of justice, obstruction of an official proceeding, and one misdemeanor count of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, according to a three-page indictment.

SoRelle, 43, was not charged with seditious conspiracy, a charge that other members of the far-right group have faced. She is slated to make an initial appearance in federal court in Austin, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The attorney was photographed with the leader of the Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, outside the Capitol on Jan. 6. 2021, along with several other members of the far-right militia.

Rhodes is accused of entering a restricted area and helping coordinate a seditious conspiracy with his fellow Oath Keepers, though prosecutors do not allege he entered the Capitol building during the riot. He is set to go to trial on Sept. 27.

In July, SoRelle said she had contacts connected to former President Donald Trump’s administration, as well as Trump attorneys at the time, including Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.

However, SoRelle said she never put Rhodes in contact with anyone in the Trump administration because she had a “firewall” between her business with the Oath Keepers and her work with the legal challenges to the election.

The Washington Examiner contacted SoRelle for comment.
