Arnold Schwarzenegger: ‘Giving back & helping others isn’t conservative or liberal’

Arnold Schwarzenegger hit back Tuesday at a social media troll who criticized the former Republican governor of California for taking part in the “liberal tradition” of Thanksgiving charity work.

“Giving back & helping others isn’t conservative or liberal,” Schwarzenegger tweeted. “We can’t think that way. We live in the most generous country in the world, which is why I say I’m not a self-made man. I hope some day you feel the need to give back that I do. Happy Thanksgiving.”

The Twitter user had earlier mocked Schwarzenegger for volunteering at Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles, an organization the Hollywood actor supports every Thanksgiving to assist struggling families put a holiday-themed meal on their table.

“stfu liberal tradition,” the person posted.

Schwarzenegger has continued to have an active presence in politics, despite leaving the state’s governor’s mansion in 2011. He has taken public stances against the Trump administration’s environmental policies as a vocal opponent of fired Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt. The actor has also advocated for reforms to curb the practice of gerrymandering.
