Washington went a little Hollywood Tuesday night when several U.S. senators appeared in an episode of the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.”
National Park Service bureaucrat Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, journeyed to Capitol Hill to appeal to several senators about maintaining spending for the nation’s parks.
Knope bumped into Senators Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), as well as Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, on her trip.
While some of the senators received her with little enthusiasm — McCain tried to avoid Knope and before admitting that her “tenacity” is “intimidating” — Leslie was able to win over most of the lawmakers with whom she spoke.
In fact, her meeting with Booker and Hatch went particularly well. After agreeing on supporting parks funding, the two admitted that they share a love of “Polynesian folk music” and play in a band together called “Across the Isle.”
Though the band is fiction, the two senators did reach “across the isle” to watch the episode with one another.
Post by Cory Booker.
“Parks and Recreation” is no stranger to cameos by famous politicians. Both McCain and Boxer have appeared on the show before. McCain and Poehler became buddies when they filmed an episode of “Saturday Night Live” together back in 2008.
Joe Biden, Michelle Obama and Newt Gingrich have also appeared on the program in past episodes.

The show is currently in its seventh and final season.
