The original Rickroll’d video is GONE from YouTube.
The classic bait-and-switch vid is one of the oldest internet memes, featuring the song “Never Gonna Give You Up” by Rick Astley. Trolls send people a web link that they claim is relevant to a topic at hand, but the link actually takes the user to Astley’s deliciously British 1987 pop hit. (Even then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi Rickroll’d cat fans halfway through her “Capital Cat Cam” in 2009.)
Originally uploaded by YouTube user cotter548 on May 15, 2007, and temporarily removed due to copyright disputes in 2012, the original music video has been blocked by YouTube in several countries, including the United States, according to The Daily Dot.
Rick has let us down. My heart is aching. I should have known better than to trust a ginger pop star.
