Marjorie Taylor Greene endorses JD Vance in crowded Ohio Senate primary

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene endorsed author JD Vance in Ohio’s crowded Republican Senate primary on Tuesday.

The outspoken Georgia Republican is a close ally of former President Donald Trump, who has yet to endorse a candidate in that race himself. Early polls show former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel in the lead in a primary contest that has been largely driven by who can align themselves more closely with Trump.

In a statement, Greene called Vance “the conservative warrior that the entire America First movement needs fighting for us in the U.S. Senate.”

“That’s why I’m proud to endorse him,” she added.

“Our country is being taken over by an unholy alliance of left-wing radicals and corporate oligarchs who seek to undermine our God-given rights, destroy traditional American values and force us all to live under their woke authoritarianism,” Greene said. “It’s time to start electing strong conservatives like JD, who put People over Politicians and understand exactly what we’re up against, and don’t just talk a good game on cable news, but who actually have the courage to fight back against the radical left to save America and stop Communism.”

Greene went on to call Vance “pro-Trump,” saying he would “fight to end unconstitutional vaccine and mask mandates, break up big tech companies that censor conservatives, expand American manufacturing by putting tariffs on the woke corporations that ship our jobs overseas, and will do everything in his power to secure the border and stop Biden’s repeated attempts to grant amnesty to millions of illegals.”

The Senate seat from Ohio is an open race, as Republican Sen. Rob Portman is retiring after 12 years in office. The seat is crucial to Republican hopes of winning a majority in 2022.

In a statement, Vance said he is “honored to have Marjorie’s support.”

Vance called Greene “genuine, honest, and courageous.”

“Unfortunately, there are too few like her, and so long as that’s the case, Republicans may win an election from time to time, but we’ll never do the difficult work of truly taking our country back from the leftwing mob and the woke corporations,” he added.

Vance said Twitter “recently censored Marjorie, but they can’t stop the America First movement from growing all over the country.”

“When I’m in the Senate, Marjorie will have an ally, and there will be real consequences for the people destroying our Republic,” Vance said.

Greene’s personal account was recently suspended from Twitter after the social media platform said she violated its policies on spreading misinformation about COVID-19.

Despite his criticism of Twitter, Vance used the platform to tout the endorsement, writing, “We’re going to win this thing and take the country back from the scumbags.”

Last year, Greene was stripped of her committee assignments in the House over social media posts calling for violence against Democratic members of Congress. Before getting elected to the House in 2020, she also publicly embraced parts of the QAnon conspiracy.

Greene has also refused to comply with House rules requiring lawmakers to wear face masks on the floor as a COVID-19 mitigation effort. She recently told the right-wing network Newsmax that her refusal has led to nearly $90,000 in fines.
