Fox News anchor Chris Wallace slammed conservative commentator Katie Pavlich during a discussion about the impeachment trial, telling her to “get your facts straight.”
Just before President Trump’s legal team resumed oral arguments on Monday, Pavlich said all witnesses called to appear in the Senate trial had also been called for testimony during the House’s proceedings last year.
“The House did not come with a complete case,” she said. “In every impeachment beforehand, the witnesses that were called had been called in the House before being brought to the Senate.”
“That’s not true.” Wallace said. “They hadn’t all been called in the House. In the Clinton impeachment, they’d been called by the independent counsel.”
Pavlich later mentioned that the independent counsel during Clinton’s impeachment called witnesses after an extensive investigation by the Justice Department, arguing Trump’s impeachment trial is a different situation.
“The grand jury material in the Clinton impeachment were handed to the House as part of the articles and given to the Senate,” she said. “They were not given after the House voted for those articles.”
Wallace, however, noted that the Justice Department declined to investigate concerns expressed in a whistleblower complaint about Trump’s July 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, thus prompting the House Democrats’ impeachment investigation.
“The Justice Department decided not to investigate, and that is why it went to the House. So, to say that in the Clinton investigation, these people were interviewed by the House — one, they weren’t, and to say it wasn’t done by the Justice Department … It wasn’t done by the Justice Department because the Justice Department refused to carry out the investigation,” said Wallace. “Get your facts straight!”
Fox’s Bret Baier then attempted to interrupt, saying, “Let’s tone it down,” but Pavlich stood by her argument.
