A school resource officer on Tuesday morning accidentally fired his gun inside a middle school in Alexandria, Virginia, but police said there were no injuries.
The gun was accidentally discharged inside the officer’s office at George Washington Middle School in the Del Ray neighborhood at about 9:10 a.m., NBC Washington reported.
After the accidental discharge, the five-year veteran of the Alexandria Police Department checked the area for potential injuries and found everyone was fine.
Police say the officer notified his supervisor and school staff of the events, and afterwards classes continued as normal. It was not known if any students or teachers were near the office when the shot was fired.
The officer is being placed on a routine administrative leave while the police department investigates the incident.
