A 23-year-old man has been charged with spray-painting anti-Semitic graffiti on an Olney synagogue, Montgomery County Police said.

On July 24, someone painted hateful symbols and slogans at B’Nai Shalom of Olney, at 18401 Burtfield Drive, police said.

The anti-Semitic phrases included German phrases used by Nazis and references to a sign that hangs over the Auschwitz concentration camp. Police said the suspect scattered loose change near the synagogue entrance as a possible anti-Semitic act, and spray-painted swastikas on nearby properties.

Ian Jacob Baron, 23, formerly of Olney, was arrested Wednesday and charged with malicious destruction of property and defacing religious property.
