Stephen Colbert is looking forward to 2016, which promises a full extra day in February to stock up on canned goods and kerosene and, of course, a presidential election. On his show Wednesday night, he turned his wit on presidential hopeful Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), commenting that his “pro-minority talk” doesn’t seem to match his actions.
Colbert showed a clip of Paul eating at an Iowa burger joint, where he was approached by a young woman who identified herself as “a DREAMer” born in Mexico who had attended school in the US and was now an immigration activist.
“As soon as he heard the word ‘Mexican,’ Senator Paul sped off like a Central American death train,” said Colbert. “But, he clearly cares about the Hispanic outreach, after all, he went out of his way to dress like a pinata.”
Colbert did defend Paul against accusation from those he characterized as the “lamestream media” who accused Paul of sidestepping an important political issue.
“That is wrong,” said Colbert. “He was not side-stepping, he was away-running. And he did it for a very good reason. Presidential candidates have to stay in shape.”
It was the inspiration for an entirely new weight-loss experience.
