The Virginia State Crime Commission is discussing whether the state should join nine others in banning synthetic marijuana, often referred to as Spice or K2.
The commission reports that use of synthetic marijuana is on the rise nationally and in Virginia; there were 70 known reports of synthetic marijuana use in the state this year.
Several state senators have already pre-filed bills to ban the substance in Virginia, including Sen. Mark Herring of Loudoun County. The bills could penalize the possession and distribution of the synthetic pot in a similar manner to the penalties for marijuana.
