Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton couldn’t name anything she has in common with GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
CBS Late Show host Stephen Colbert asked Clinton in a pre-taped interview that aired Monday night what she and her fellow New York resident shared common ground on. Clinton couldn’t name one thing.
“I’m just not sure what I have in common with him,” Clinton said, “However, when you are president and you are working with the Congress, there are lots of opportunities to find common ground.”
Clinton explained her lack of similarities with the Manhattan real estate tycoon, pointing to her record as a former secretary of state and first lady as examples of times she has stepped across the aisle to work with those she didn’t share common interests.
“When I actually have a job, as opposed to running for a job, I actually get things done with the Republicans,” Clinton said. “When I was secretary of state and first lady — you have to be willing to find whatever common ground exists and try to make something good happen.”
The Democratic front-runner will go up against Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday in the New York primary. Clinton has a 12-point advantage over Sanders, according to the Real Clear Politics average of recent polls.
