NEW YORK (AP) — Police have arrested a minivan driver they say hit and killed a man in the Bronx after the man fired a gun at the vehicle.
Jonathan Mejia was charged Sunday night with murder, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while his ability was impaired.
Information on the 25-year-old Manhattan man’s lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
Police say a romantic rivalry may have sparked the confrontation around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the Morris Heights section.
They say 43-year-old Edward Jenkins started firing a gun after seeing his former girlfriend in the minivan with another man.
The driver took off but later encountered Jenkins and ran him down.
Jenkins was pronounced dead at Bronx Lebanon Hospital.
