WATCH: MLB closer Josh Hader booed by own fans after meltdown in ninth inning

Talk about a rough start.

New San Diego Padres‘ closer Josh Hader was booed as he was pulled from the game by his manager on Friday following an embarrassing meltdown in the ninth inning.

Hader, who was traded to the Padres from the Milwaukee Brewers at this season’s MLB Trade Deadline, gifted the Washington Nationals the lead with a wild throwing error. The struggling pitcher was trying to throw to first base with the scores tied in the ninth inning, but missed his teammate so badly the ball ended up bouncing off the outfield wall.

Victor Robles raced home from second to score the go-ahead run, before Hader’s problems were compounded by a two-run homer from rookie Alex Call. Fans could be heard booing as Hader literally threw the game away.

“I didn’t set my feet and throw the ball,” Hader said after the game, according to MLB.com. “When you do a PFP, you’ve got to slow the play down and really move your body toward the target. That’s one of the things I didn’t do.”
