Former first lady Michelle Obama is fast becoming a betting odds favorite in the Democratic vice presidential race.
Bookies saw the surge in political bets coming in for Obama two weeks ago. At that time, the aggregator site Oddschecker put her chances at 25-1 but added that interest was growing.
Oddschecker spokesman Pete Watt told Secrets, “Although her odds of +2500 [25-1] indicate that she remains an outsider with just an implied chance of 3.85%, you can expect to see that figure shoot up if she continues to receive bets at the same rate.”
Today, he told us, “I said that if the money continued to come in on her the price would come in too, and it absolutely has. She is now as short as 9-1 to be Joe Biden’s VP pick — the same odds as the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl.”
What’s more, next to top favorite Sen. Kamala Harris, much of the betting money is backing Obama. Some 13.4% of the total bets placed on the sites charted by Oddschecker are for Obama. For Harris, it’s 22.68%, said Watt. And, he added, Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s chances have gone from 12-1 to 6-1.
Obama remains the most popular woman in U.S. politics, but she has said she is not interested in being Biden’s No. 2.
