Take Five

Crystal Couture in Crystal City, through Saturday One typically doesn’t think of “fashion” and Crystal City in the same context, but Crystal Couture may change that.

Entering its third year, Crystal Couture features “a week of runway shows featuring designers and boutiques in the area,” according to event producer Maggy Francois.

The event, which opened Tuesday and runs through Saturday, highlights metro-area designers, boutiques, disc jockeys and other live entertainment each night. The theme this year is “Exotic and Elegant to Everything Everyday,” and Francois explained that Crystal Couture features fashion across the spectrum, from dresses to T-shirts to black-tie.

“We’re not just showing one type of clothing,” she said

A Maryland-based producer, designer and fashion educator, Francois has been associated with Crystal Couture for each of the event’s three years. She said that associating Crystal City with local fashion hasn’t been too much of a challenge.

“It’s great,” Francois said. “Before I started in the show, I didn’t even know about Crystal City. Now people are excited in the area. It’s a great place to hang out.”
