A man who set himself on fire in front of the Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C., Friday has died from his injuries, officials said Saturday.
The Metropolitan Police Department responded to the scene after receiving reports that Wynn Bruce, a resident of Boulder, Colorado, had attempted to set himself on fire around 6:30 p.m. on the steps of the Supreme Court. A medical helicopter airlifted Bruce to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police confirmed to the Washington Examiner.
The area surrounding the Supreme Court was closed off to the public for about two hours Friday evening as authorities from the MPD, the Supreme Court Police, and the Capitol Police responded to the scene. The Supreme Court was not in session at the time of the incident.
