Sen. Dick Durbin tests positive for COVID-19


Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced Thursday he has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of a planned vote on a Senate bill.

Durbin is fully vaccinated and double-boosted against COVID-19, and he is only experiencing minor symptoms from his infection, he wrote on social media.

“Consistent with CDC guidelines, I will quarantine and follow advice from my doctor while I continue to work remotely,” Durbin wrote.

Durbin announced his positive test result ahead of a vote on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which was agreed to by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Voting on the bill, which likely needs backing from all 50 Democratic senators for passage, will likely be delayed until after Durbin returns.

Several other high-profile politicians have announced positive COVID-19 tests recently, including Manchin and President Joe Biden. Biden has since tested negative, the White House confirmed.
