VIPs ponder a Hispanic ‘Obama’

Breaking barriers

Now that we’ve got an African-American president, can a Latino president be far behind? “We are the youngest population in America we are the fastest growing population in America we have more stake in the American future than any other group in America,” said former San Antonio Mayor and HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros Monday night, as he pondered the idea at the Latino Inaugural Celebration. “This country will be great in the future if it recognizes the potential of the Latino community from the grassroots up.”

But comedian George Lopez, whom we caught up with at the Artists and Athletes Alliance lunch, said we may have to wait a while. “I don’t know if he’s out there,” said Lopez of the current crop of Latino pols. “You almost have to genetically engineer someone — make sure they eat right, stay out of trouble.”
