Vegan protesters flooded a supermarket in Auckland, New Zealand, to keep shoppers from purchasing meat.
The protesters walked around the store on Sunday chanting “it’s not food, it’s violence” while carrying signs with the same message and some that said “stop eating animals,” according to the New Zealand Herald.
Staff at the Countdown St. Lukes market repeatedly asked the protesters to stop protesting or leave the store. The protesters responded saying they were fighting for “victims.”
The protesters carried cameras to film the protest and shoppers, and they formed a picket line to block shoppers’ access to the meat section and counter.
“Take your camera off me, I’m doing my f—ing shopping. I’m doing my shopping, unless you’re going to pay for my shopping you can f— off,” one woman told the protesters.
The supermarket manager eventually called the police to escort the protesters out of the store, but the protesters left before the police arrived
“We reserve the right to ask anyone undertaking protest action to leave our stores, however on this occasion this request was ignored several times,” the manager said in a statement. “The police were called to support our team and the protesters left shortly afterwards.”
