1. FS Kareem Moore (knee) was in pads and ran sprints and said he hasn’t felt any pain in his right knee for two weeks. But he did not work in the full-team portion of practice and his status for Sunday remains uncertain. He’s wearing a brace and admitted it’s a bit cumbersome. But Moore also said, “other than that I’m back to being the same guy.”
2. It’s still hard to imagine him playing, even if he hasn’t been ruled out. If a guy who has missed three weeks already hasn’t yet practiced in full, it’s doubtful he’ll suddenly be ready to go after one good day. Doesn’t happen that way.
3. Turns out that DL Albert Haynesworth sprained his ankle in practice Wednesday and was again limited Thursday. Don’t know yet about his status – that will come out Friday. I would imagine if he can’t play, then Anthony Bryant would be active.
4. Coach Mike Shanahan did not rule out the Redskins pursuing San Diego WR Vincent Jackson. He didn’t exactly endorse the idea, either.
“We’ll always be trying to upgrade our football team, if that presented itself. We have people evaluating different people on teams all the time,” Shanahan said. “You never know when a trade does work out or when you can get somebody to help your football team. But that’s part of the process.”
5. However, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that three teams – St. Louis, Seattle and Minnesota – have received permission to talk to Jackson’s agent. Even last week I’d heard from one GM that he thought the Chargers would hold onto him all year. But that was just a guess knowing how stubborn their GM, A.J. Smith, can be. Still, it would take a lot to get Jackson.
6. Jackson was suspended three games by the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The Chargers added three games to the suspension, but if he’s traded by Sept. 22 it could drop to four games.
7. Redskins left tackle Trent Williams faces his second straight top pass rusher in Houston’s Mario Williams.
“They’re both big and strong, long arms and very athletic,” Trent Williams said. “Mario uses power a little bit more. DeMarcus, he’d rather go around you a lot.”
8. Think Arian Foster will have a big day vs. Washington? Carlos Rogers doesn’t. “I don’t think a team will come in and run the ball on us like that. Once they feel like they cant they’ll get back to that passing attack.”
9. Have mentioned this before, but I liked what I saw of Chris Cooley’s blocking. Cooley said this scheme actually helps with his blocking.
“It puts me in an advantageous situation,” Cooley said. “I can turn and run block who’s in my path. I’m not asked to drive anyone off the ball ever.”
Cooley goes in motion an awful lot. At times he’ll be used as an H-back and go through the line as a lead blocker. It gives him a chance to get a head of steam and, if he doesn’t drive him back, he can at least neutralize a linebacker.
10. Um, Clinton Portis and Albert Haynesworth had a little show in the locker room today.
Portis always speaks to the media on Thursdays. But after his controversy earlier in the week, he didn’t have much to say. When asked about if he regretted commenting on females in the locker room, Portis held up a sign on a notebook paper that read, “No comment,” as Haynesworth applied black athletic tape over his mouth.
When asked about the Houston game, Haynesworth did his shtick again and Portis held up a sign that read, “Thanks for coming.”
Then it was a sign that read, “God Bless you.”
And, finally, “Have a good day.”
All the while, Haynesworth kept applying athletic tape over his mouth.
Then Portis left.
Yep, things have changed.
