House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and liberal comedian and talk show host Joy Behar took an unusual selfie over the weekend when the two crossed paths at a restaurant in the Hamptons.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Behar approached Boehner when he stood to leave Almond Restaurant in East Hampton, New York, Saturday.
“I couldn’t resist having some fun,” Behar detailed. “I jumped up and told him to stop obstructing President Obama. I am sick of all this deadlock. Strangely, he replied, ‘I am Obama’s best friend.’ Then he put his arm around my neck and it looked like he was going to strangle me.”
“Boehner had quite a grip,” she continued, delivering a not so sly backhanded compliment. “For a guy who cries a lot, he’s physically quite strong.”
The former “View” host said that Boehner and his four Secret Service agents “stood out” among the casual Hamptons crowd.
“They looked like they were going to a wake,” Behar observed.
Boehner had traveled to the Hamptons to attend a fundraiser for Sen. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) and to campaign against Democratic Rep. Tim Bishop of Long Island.
Behar’s enthusiastic heckling of Boehner is hardly the first evidence of her tendency to speak her mind around Republicans.
“I have got into trouble with a lot of Republican politicians because of my big mouth,” Behar admitted, citing Sen. John McCain and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as examples.
