?I?m happy I played college football?

For Towson University?s Colin Quinn, football is it.

“I love the game ? love playing it, love watching it,” the 6-foot-6, 300-pound senior offensive lineman said. “I?ve loved it since I was 9 and started playing.”

But the scholarship player hasn?t seen the field nearly as much as he would have liked. The former Wilde Lake standout has dressed for six games and seen only a handful of snaps in his four years as a Tiger. But that hasn?t discouraged him. In fact, his work ethic and dedication is exactly what Towson coach Gordy Combs says makes him so valuable.

“He?s never complained about anything,” Combs said. “He?s a great model with his work ethic.”

“I try to work hard in the offseason to get myself ready for the season,” Quinn said. “I like working out; it?s a good way for me to try to get on the field.”

And it almost worked. Against Maine two weeks ago, Combs rewarded Quinn by selecting him to travel and dress for the game. That gesture meant a lot, even though he didn?t play.

“It [was] a big week for me,” Quinn said. “I really wanted to get in on special teams and cheer hard and root for the team whether I got on the field or not.”

Quinn?s reputation as a hard-working team player was well-known even before his Towson days.

“I don?t think he ever missed a practice or workout in the weight room during the summer,” Wilde Lake coach Doug DuVall said.

“He wasn?t the most talented kid, but he got thereby hard work. He?s always been a big kid, but everything he?s achieved has been through hard work.”

“I?m happy I played college football,” Quinn said. “I really enjoyed my time and teammates at Towson.”
